The Names of certain Fellows of the Society were read out forthe second time, in conformity with the Bye-Laws, Sect. VI,Art. 5, in consequence of the Non-Payment of the Arrears oftheir Contributions. Dr. C. W. Andkews, , gave an account of the discoveryand excavation of a very large specimen of Etephas antiquesnear Chatham. The specimen was originally discovered aboutthree years ago, by a party of sappers who were digging a attention of the authorities of the British Museum was drawnto this find by Mr. S. Turner, of Luton, Chatham. The extractionof the bones was delayed until the past summer. A great part ofthe skeleton had now been collected, owing largely to the skill ofMr. L. E. Parsons, Junr. The skull, unfortunately, was in a verybad condition, but two complete upper, and one lower, secondmolars were obtained. One tusk, about 7 or 8 feet long, was alsofoun
