The deflection of the frame being relatively small (1 to ), a register, the construction of which resembles a metalmanometer, is installed in the hollowed out part of the means of a needle and a graduated dial, the deflection andtherefore the pressure exerted in making the test, can be quicklyand easily read. To adjust the machine all that is necessary is to open the caseenclosing the mechanism above the frame. Should the machineever get out of adjustment, a comparison should be made on thestandard piece, and when an impression of the same diameter. Arrangement of the Gears at the Rear of the Derihon PortableHardness Testing Machine has been made, the needle should be brought over the figure3,000 by means of a small adjusting screw. This adjustment, however, would only be necessary through some accidentalcause independent of the operation of the machine under nor-mal usage. The second illustration shows the arrangement of the gears atthe rear. A portable case is provided in which the machine canbe packed. This machine is placed on the market by H. .\.
