PHILIPPINE SEA (March 28, 2017) Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force ship JS Umigiri (DD-158) participates in a photo exercise with ships of the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group in the Philippine Sea. The Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group is on a regularly scheduled Western Pacific deployment as part of the Pacific Fleet-led initiative to extend the command and control functions of 3rd Fleet. Navy aircraft carrier strike groups have patrolled the Indo-Asia-Pacific regularly and routinely for more than 70 years.
