Cœnotaphiorum (15), 1563, Etching; first state of four, sheet: 6 9/16 x 8 3/16 in. ( x cm), Hans Vredeman de Vries (Netherlandish, Leeuwarden 1527–1606 (?) Antwerp (?)), Engraved by Johannes van Doetecum the elder (Netherlandish, active 1554–ca. 1600, died 1605), Engraved by Lucas van Doetecum (Netherlandish, active 1554–72, died before 1589), Freestanding funerary monument placed in an interior. On top of the tomb the effigy of a sleeping man is placed. Above his head there is a panel flanked by statues of wild men. The lower end of the tomb is characterized by a panel left blank and framed by strapwork decorations
