FReLoN CCD (charged couple device) camera, European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF), Grenoble, France. The FReLon (Fast Readout Low Noise) camera contains an X-ray light produces greyscale images at twenty times the sensitivity compared to consumer digital cameras and is able to read images at speeds of 16 images per second. The FReLoN camera is used to capture X-ray images of biological and geological samples, such as fossils, produced by powerful X-ray sources, such as the ESRF. The resulting digital data can be used to create 3-D computer models.
