The levator ani (Figs. 10, 11), the most important muscle of the pelvic dia-phragm, in general, with its fellow of the opposite side, presents the form of ahorseshoe, open in front, rather than that of a funnel, as very commonly true relations of this muscle have especially been emphasized by Luschka.
