Zachary Taylor (1784-1850) was the 12th President of the United States and had the nickname of "Old Rough and Ready."


Zachary Taylor (1784-1850) was the 12th President of the United States. He won the nickname of "Old Rough and Ready" in army campaigns against native Americans and Mexicans. He commanded troops in the Mexican War, winning victories at Palo Alto, Resaca de la Palma, and Buena Vista. He was elected president on Whig party ticket and took office in 1849. He died in 1850 and Millard Fillmore became president.
