Boilers from the old Golden Progress mine rusting next to the poppet head where they powered to winding mechanism for the mine shaft. The mine dates from 1886 and had several owners and periods of opration, the final one being between 1931 and 1936. The boilers powered a winch to move men and equipment up and down the 45 metre deep shaft. It also raised water up to the surface to stop it flooding the mine but, more importantly, it brought the ore to the surface. You can visit the mine remains although it is on private land. Information panels and care for the mine are provided by DOC (Department of Conservation) One of the boliers has a makers plare marker Worthington, Made in the USA
