View NW of Newton-by-Castle Acre church, Norfolk, England, UK, showing the central Saxon square tower with pyramidal shingle roof. Late Saxon/pre-Conquest c. 1050-66 with later additions to the nave & chancel particularly in C14th. A dripstone on the tower indicates where a S transept was added & removed: the church may once have been cruciform in plan. The triangular-headed belfry windows have carstone shafts to the S & E. The pantile roofs of the nave & chancel were originally thatch. The Parish Church of All Saints has variously been referred to as St Mary, St Mary and All Saints, & All Saints'.
