An NYPD traffic enforcement agent on Broadway in Times Square in New York between West 47th Street and West 42nd Street on Thursday February 26 2009 New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced the city s plans to ban traffic in a program called Green Light for Midtown on Broadway in the Times Square area The program is aimed at reducing traffic congestion as Broadway bisects the city s grid layout causing disruptions in traffic light timing An additional traffic lane will be added to the parallel Seventh Avenue and the Broadway side will become a pedestrian mall Work on the renovation is to begin in May 2009 Frances M Roberts
