In Casco Viejo, the historic sector of Panama City, many of the buildings were built in the French Canal era and show the French influence in architectural design. The sector had become very run down but has been undergoing urban renewal and many of the buildings are being remodeled. Casco Viejo is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
