SAAB Gripen accelerates for takeoff with after burn & white smoke

The JAS39 SAAB Gripen accelerating down the runway for takeoff at the Farnborough Airshow 2006 to start its air display . A thundering roar fills the air as the airframe quivers during its run leaving a heat haze behind it that distorts the image in its wake . A multi role combat aircraft developed over three previous generations of airframe now replacing the Draken and Viggen variants this aircraft is a collaboration of SAAB Ericson Volvo and Celsius Aerotech. BAe Systems jointly markets the Grippen following a marketing agreement several years ago. It can be equipped with a range of European produced armament including AIM AMRAAM and sidewinder missiles. Approximate weight 6500 kilogrammes max takeoff weight 12500 kilogrammes Engines Volvo Aero RM 12 or optionally General Electric F404J Thrust 80 KiloNewtons or 18000 Pounds Maximum speed above supersonic at low altitude and about mach 2 at high altitude. With this power and speed it can climb to 45000 feet or 14 Kilometres altitude in about 3 minutes which is an exciting performance to watch . The forward winglets can rotate giving it excellent manoevrability in the air and good low speed performance without the complication of a swing wing .
