A sign on Broadway in New York proclaims the new "Broadway Slow Zone" on Monday, August 4, 2014. As part of Mayor Bill de Blasio's "Vision Zero" initiative the speed limit of 30 mph has been reduced to 25 mph. Broadway from West 59th Street to West 220 Street has been posted as a "Slow Zone". with the other "Slow Zone" starting today atSouthern Blvd. in the Bronx. Two dozen zones will be instituted in the five boroughs over the course of several months. 22 pedestrians have been killed since 2008 in the "Broadway Slow Zone" and speeding is the top cause of traffic injuries and fatalities.
