Andrew Davis competing for Great Britain in the 2017 London Marathon. He finished 16th in a time of 02:15:11 Sean Hehir finished 2nd in his category

Just to point this out to any of you that didn't already know: Mercia, Maldwyn AC and Wales International Andy Davies competed in the Commonwealth Games marathon on Sunday 27th July. Andy had the honour of opening Wales' campaign in the athletics at Glasgow 2014 and finished 17th of 27 with a fantastic run just a minute outside of his PB. This is no mean achievement considering his previous best was on a flatter course with pacemakers at Manchester earlier in the year. Congratulations to Andy from all here at Mercia - it's a fabulous achievement and one you should be really proud of. Judging by his schedule we can look forward to seeing Andy (or at least his back as he eases away from the rest of us) on the fells soon - we wish him luck for his next race at Pikes' Peak in the US on August 16th. Newtown college lecturer Andy Davies has pulled off the performance of his career to finish 16th in the London Marathon and all but book his place in the Wales team for the Commonwealth Games
