SILVERDALE, Wash. (April 1, 2017) Chief Missile Technician Matt Tomasetti reads the Navy Chief's birthday message prior to a CPO birthday 5k run at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor's Brick Courtyard. The event, hosted by the Pacific Northwest Chief Petty Officers Association was held in celebration of the 124th birthday of the chief petty officer. The Navy created the rank of chief petty officer on April 1, 1893 and honors it annually by taking part in events demonstrating pride and tradition.
