The Inner Courtyard at Château de Sully in Sully-sur Loire, France

The imposing medieval architecture of Château de Sully has sat on the banks of the Loire river since the 13th century and has undergone many changes principally in the 17th and 19th centuries. In 1918 a terrible fire destroyed a wing of the château built in the 18th century. It was rebuilt soon afterwards with one less storey. The château was the residence of the Béthune family carrying the title of Duke of Sully from the 17th century until it was purchased by the Loiret local Council in 1962.
