He was bornJune 23, 1817, in Columbiana (now Ma-honing) county, Ohio, son of Abrahamand Elizabeth (Misheye) Kerns, who werenatives of Pennsylvania, where the pater-nal grandfather, George Kerns, was alsoborn.
