H. Wilson, of the Arnold Arboretum, the newly elected president, gave an illustrated lecture depicting vegetation and scenes in China, Japan and Formosa. Thomas Roland sent some handsome cyclamens for table decoration, and "William An- derson, superintendent for Mrs. Bayard Thayer, exhibited a large vase of Lilium regale, from bulbs which he had kept in cold storage and potted early in Sep- tember. The bulbs were 4 years old from seed, ajid the spikes carried several handsome flowers, each showing their value commercially and otherwise. The Welch Bros. Co. is receiving the finest cut poinsettias I have seen this season. It is practically the only firm here having lily of the valley in quan- tity for the holidays. One of its win- dows is devoted to fine specimens of Begonia Melior, for which it has a good demand. P. Welch fears that prevailing high prices may tend to reduce shipping trade, which has been good this season. Louis E. Small, of Tewksbury, the local bachelor's button king, has three houses devoted to this flower at pres- ent. He has some fine yellow marguer- ites, the best realizing $6 per hundred at wholesale. Wollrath & Sons have sold out prac- tically all their fine specimens of be- gonias, cvclamens, poinsettias, etc. They filled one $11,000 order from Connecti- cut for cy
