Clytemnestra conspired with her lover Aegisthus to kill Agamemnon. She is seen here after the murder.

According to Greek mythology, Clytemnestra was the half-sister of the legendary Helen of Troy, who had been married to Menelaus, king of Sparta, and was taken to Troy by Paris. Clytemnestra was the wife of the Agamemnon, brother of Menelaus, and the mother of Orestes, Electra, and Iphigenia. When Agamemnon returned from fighting in the Trojan War, Clytemnestra conspired with her lover Aegisthus to kill Agamemnon. Orestes avenged his father s death. This early 1900s illustration shows Clytemnestra exiting the room after killing Agamemnon.
