Lichen sclerosus on the penis of a 45 year old male patient. This is a chronic inflammatory condition affecting the skin. What causes lichen sclerosus is not fully understood. In males, the affected skin may feel uncomfortable, sometimes itchy, burning and sore. Often the foreskin gets tighter and more difficult to retract, leading to painful erections. Treatment is with corticosteroid ointments.
