The Emperor Otto Prize is awarded every two years to people who are committed to living together in Europe. The award commemorates Emperor Otto I as a pioneer of Europe and commends special merits for the understanding of European peoples. Among the prize winners were Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel and former Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker. Federica Mogherini is an Italian politician and the current High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission in the Juncker Commission since 1 November 2014.
