Prostaticdisease and stone in the bladder may be the cause is careless use of injections, or use ofimproper or too strong injections; or, a careless physi-cian may carry the germs of the disease into the blad-der on a dirty catheter, sound or other common cause is infection descending fromthe kidneys, etc. But in the great majority of cases it is the con-sequence of careless treatment, or neglect, of inflam-mation of the urethra, Gonorrhoea, etc. If Gonor-rhoea is the cause, the Cystitis is more likely to occurafter indulgence in sexual excitement, highly sea-soned food, or alcoholic beverages. The urine in Cystitis is always cloudy, frequentlycontains blood, and is usually alkaline in bacteria causing the disease can be found in it bythe aid of the microscope. The urine commonly hasthe odor of ammonia, the result of decomposition. If allowed to go unchecked, the walls of the blad-der become thickened. Ulceration also takes place,,which may terminate in Gangrene. This latter usuallyresults in perforation of the bladder and death fromperitonitis.
