Micrometer Calipers for Setting Boring Tools. edges of these tools a type of micrometer caliper has been de-veloped with which the wheel fit on the axle can be calipered andthe amount of reduction desired for the fit can be made by shift-ing the leg of the caliper which, carries an arm on a micrometerscale, as is shown in the illustration. With the caliper thus set,the cutting edge of the tool can be adjusted directly to the next larger axle the micrometer leg only is reset and thedifference in the reading noted. The cutters are then adjusted bytheir dials to the increased size. Thus by using the micrometerreading on the calipers the cutters can be accurately ma<le largeror smaller without direct calipering.
