Black Guan on fallen tree
Rare to locally fairly common in montane forest and forest borders in highlands of Chiriquí. In Panama best known from Chiriquí, though numbers there have diminished due to forest destruction and hunting pressure. Scarce now on Volcan Baru but still moderately numerous in the Fortuna area. It is interesting to know that the birds can be tame in remote areas with little or no hunting and areas where hunting has been effectively halted as the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve in Costa Rica
