The Roman emperor Caius Caesar Germanicus is better known by his nickname Caligula (translates "little boots'). He ruled from 37–41. He succeeded Tiberius. Perhaps affected by some illness, he ruled as a cruel despot. He was assassinated. This 1895 drawing is based on a bronze bust of Caligula that is housed in Paris.
