Bowness-on-Windermere Cumbria UK Coal fired steam bus Martha on its only ever run between Bowness and Windermere railway station


2006 A special act of Parliament has been passed to allow a 74 year old steam bus named Martha to ferry passengers between Bowness and Windermere The gleaming red bus ,wich runs on coal, is the UK's first steam-powered scheduled bus service The owners Stuart Harrison 60& his son Chris 28 had to apply for an Act of Parliament to be amended because we weren't allowed to take passengers on a vehicle with an exaust at the front The bus will run four days a week Tes Thurs Sat & Sunday untill the end of October between the Tourist Information Centre on the Glebe to Windermere Steam Boat Museum.
