In lessthan seven years the scheme bore fruit, for GreatEastern students secured two Whitworth Scholar-ships and five Whitworth Exhibitions, and fourstudents passed the final test of the LondonUniversity for the degree of Bachelor of Science(Faculty of Engineering). At the Locomotive andCarriage Works, Stratford, London, E., practicalclasses are open to employes free of charge, andwithout deduction of pay, when the studies infringeupon the ordinary working hours.
