Autumn Gold

The engraving is of a painting by Rosewell Morse Shurtleff (1838-1915) an American artist who became known for his paintings of forest interiors. He studied at Dartmouth College and the Lowell Institute and worked as an architect and lithographer before taking up painting as a profession, practicing his art particularly in the Adirondack Mountains. He also attracted a number of his artist peers to the region which became a popular centre for American artists. Autumn Gold is a perfect example of his facility with forests and animals.
