Referring to thework of the committees, the chairmanshowed how carefully he had familiarizedhimself with the mass of details comingbefore the association. The progress dur-ing the year in complying with legislativeenactments, especially on the leading rail-roads, was excellent, but there was stillroom for progress along this line. The chair-man regretted a growing tendency in theuse of non-standard material in the con-struction and repair of cars, and appealedto the members to correct this practiceas far as it was within their power to doso.
