Ballynoe, Dublin, Ireland. Architect: McCullough Mulvin, 2006. View of living space showing stairs, supporting column, kitchen,

A timber-sheathed pavilion sits in a sea-side garden; the departure for its design was an old dormer bungalow on the same site. The brief was for a house that would exploit the views and provide a contemporary home for an expanding family. The roof was taken off and an arched portal frame placed over the remaining ground floor structure to form a single large living space on the first floor. The rooms remaining at ground level provide the sleeping and utility space. The new house is clad in Western red cedar and lined in birch plywood internally. A balcony to the rear allows direct connection to the garden down a steel stairs.
