Some of the importantNew York revivals were in 1901 with Breval, de Reszke, Adams,Plancon and Journet; 1906, with Caruso (his first appearance inthe role), Fremstad, Plancon and Journet. Strangely enough, Scribe gave Meyerbeer the libretto in 1838,and part of the music was written then, but the two could notagree as to alterations, and it was not until 1852 that Scribe fur-nished a revised book.
