Demonstration at London offices of Kalyx who run the Harmondsworth Immigration Removal Centre against human rights abuses there
Deonstration outside the offices of Kalyx who run the Harmondsworth detention centre where immigrants are held near to Heathrow Airport. Detainees there complain of poor conditions, lack of medical facilities and no chance of proper legal representation. Many cases are dealt with under fast-track procedures and they have little chance to prepare their case. Recent protests there which included an occupation of the exercise area and a petition to the European Court of Human Rights were ended by riot police storming the building, manhadling the detainees, and around 30 were taken away to solitary confinement. Kalyx is owned by the French company Sodexo, now a major private supplier of services to the UK government, making large profits here. The protest was organised by No Borders London, a group that campaigns on immigration issues.
