Although this par-ticular protection is not very effective once the fire has. tings are of the simplest character, and, where possible, thepipes are bent to avoid their use entirely. Hangers of aspecial graduated type are employed so that the pipes areeasily adjusted for drainage. The horizontal piping is laidto a pitch not less than ^ in. in 10 ft. The arrangementof heads as shown in Fig. 11 follows what is known as thecentral side feed principle. The general design of the buildings is very favorableto roof sprinkler protection, as all of the buildings are butone story high and the bottom chords of the roof trussesare only 16 ft. above the floor. Again, the spans are shortand there is little waste room among the truss roof proper is of 2-in. plank over 8-in. channel ironpurlins, which permits an excellent arrangement for run-ning the sprinkler pipes clear and free on the bottom ofthe planking between the purlin members.
