Ankle joint examination. Physiotherapist performing a subtalar joint test on a patient's ankle. The subtalar joint is between the talus bone of the ankle, and the calcaneus bone of the heel of the foot. The bones are held together by ligaments, and this manipulation of the joint can help diagnose a tear or other damage to the ligaments. If the ligaments are damaged, the appropriate treatment can be given.
