The Great Melbourne Telescope on a temporary mounting in Ireland before being shipped out to Australia. Built by Grubbs of Dublin this instrument, a Cassegrain reflector, had a 48 inch (122 cm) speculum metal mirror and was fully steerable. Part of the tube was built in lattice form to reduce weight.
