The saw housing travels on top of the frame in heavydove-tail slides and is provided with adjusting gibs for tak-ing up wear and for lining up the saw. The feed of thishousing is by means of a heavy lead screw driven by rightand left friction gearing, which is controlled by a foot treadleat front of machine. There are three rates of forward feedand one return. The housing can be started or stopped atany point in its travel and can be returned to its startingpoint at will of the operator. A stop rod is furnished bywhich the backward travel of the saw can be regulated, asit is not necessary to return the saw for the full stroke forevery cut Hamilton Heavy Automatic Railway Cut-off Saw March, 1909.
