Tengananese men fight each other using thorny pandanus leaves and rattan shields during the war ritual called Mekare-Kare or Pandanus War in the village of Tenganan Pengringsingan, Karangasem, Bali island, Indonesia. Mekare-Kare ritual is a one of the famous ritual during a month-full ceremony called 'Usabha Sambah', to demonstrate a respect to the God Indra, the Hindu god of war which is held every year according their traditional calendar. Tenganan Pengringsingan is home of community surviving from the pre-Hindu time, which strictly adheres to a traditional life of ritual and ceremony.
