During theautumn a second steamboat was partially com-pleted by the Philadelphia promoters, when astorm tore the vessel from its moorings, and, castashore upon Pettys Island, she lay bleaching, afitting companion to the wreck of the Revolution-ary frigate Alliance. In 1795 the machinery ofthe steamboat was sold at auction, and Fitch, hav-ing transferred his plan of operations, in 1796, exhibited a small steamboat on the waters ofthe Collect Pond, on the site of the present CityHall Park of New York.
