Donne(1844: 41^12) stated that it held two buckets, and Nauhaus (1881: 344) described it as alarge trunk, about 90 by 50 cm. There is no indication of shape, but see Figure 15, an ovalbasket, described as a womans basket (PR , Thembu, 1827). 2. itala: Xhosa, large basket. Techniques Fabric: these are coiled sewn baskets (Fig. 1X-Z).Beginning: {iqindiva) bound oval (Fig. 1GG).Edge: {iqindiva) herring-bone (Fig. 2DD)..
