PETERS GENERAL HOSPITAL In 1 796 the importance of a bettermethod of transportation across the Ran-tan River resulted in the erection of theold wooden bridge and the abandonmentof the ferry across the river. This bridgewas for years controlled by the New Brunswick Bridge Company whichcharged a toll, and this method was con-tinued until July 3, 1875, when theCounty became the owner of the bridgeand declared it a free bridge.
