On the opposite side ot the way is Great Port-land-street, which is noteworthy as the place ofresidence of Arthur OLeary. He died here inJanuary, 1802. W. P. MCabe, the well-knownUnited Irishman, made this street one of hisnumerous resorts dining his daring and dan-gerous visits to the metropolis. Here also, onthe 26th of February, 1848, died Thomas Cooke, an excellent musician and CARDINAL and a still more successful teacher. He was bornin Dublin in 1782, and gained a great reputationby the numerous operas and songs he his pupils, perhaps the mo6t famous hasbeen Sims Reeves. On the right is Margaretstreet, containing one of the most beautifulchurches in London—All Saints. Its interior is su-perbly decorated, the fine painted windows beingby a living Irish artist of renown—namely, JohnOConnor. In this same street MDowell thesculptor kept a studio towards the close of hialife, and at an academy here the famous critic andantiquary, Dr. John Doran, was educated. Hewas born in London, of parents who came fromcounty Cavan, and was essentially Irish in feelingand sympathies. To him we owe many factsconcerning Irish writers and other Irishmen ofnote which would doubtless have remained inobscurity if he, with his intense enthusiasm foreverything Irish, had not rescued them fromneglect and dwelt with full emphasis upon the
