The spirulatinii is more dense than in the preceding form, and the srierites in the shaft of the aiilhocodia and in the furrows on the anthorodial head (i. p. at the mesen- trries) are mainly spindles (fip. 22 a, b) which may attain a maximum lenjfth of about mm, but generally measure than f»..1 mm in length. On the ridges the sclcrites are mainly slender rhihs (fig. 22 A m) which have a distinct shaft and attain a lenu'th of about i>..35 mm. Ty])i( al sjK-cimens of ('. glomeraln f. lulkeni and C. glomeruOi f. are .separatecl, but, as mentioned, specimens which aj>parently are transitional forms may occur and the occur- rence of 8uch forms makes it impossible to maintain that the two forms are two distitict species.
