MEDITERRANEAN SEA (Jan. 1, 2019) Marines assigned to the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit learn how to operate an M2A1 .50-caliber machine gun in the hangar bay of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3). Kearsarge and embarked 22nd MEU are on a scheduled deployment as part of the Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group in support of maritime security operations, crisis response and theater security cooperation, while also providing a forward naval presence.
