La Fregate aircraft. Early monoplane named 'La Fregate' being tested in France. The frigate bird was the model for this French monoplane, which had a similar design to that of the Bleriot design. La Fregate was powered by a 3-cylinder Anzani engine capable of generating 30 horsepower. Test flights were carried out at Issy in 1910 by French aviation pioneer Robert de Lesseps (1882-1916). This photograph, dating from around 1910, is from the Bain News Service, one of the USA's earliest news picture libraries.
