(8) ACROSS THE LAKE • Height, 201/2 inches; width, 12^/2 inches The spectator is in a scattered wood of secondgrowth, of green grass and boulders ^rewn withyellow and brown leaves in the early autumn, andlooks out over a pale blue lake lying below, its watersseen through the leafage. The trees are for the mo^part ^iU green, some showing pink and yellow leavesnear their tops. Beyond the lake one looks to greenand blue upland fields, lying in sunshine, and over?topped in the di^ance by a line of blue hills. The skyis pale blue — as though seen through a di^ant hare.
