A clownfish (Amphiprion clarkii: 6 cms.) in its host anemone (Heteractis magnifica). These fish have a symbiotic relationship with anemones, which they protect from attack by predators in exchange for a place of refuge. They are doughty defenders of their habitats and will sometimes even attempt to chase away approaching divers! If they feel threatened, they hide amongst the anemone's many tentacles, to the stinging nematocysts of which they are immune. Various species of clownfish are encountered on tropical coral reefs, where they feed mainly on copepods and algae. Picture taken in Indonesia
