The spaces beneath the sloping decks also serve tocarry the ballast that was found necessary to bring the totalweight of the locomotive up to 25 tons for adhesive purposes inhauling; the ballast consists of a pile of old rails at each endnear the lowest point of the deck. The auxiliary equipment consists of the standard New York. Especial interest is attached to this accomplishment of themechanical department of the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Com-pany, as this is the first electric locomotive that has been builtin its entirety by a railw
