An early painting showing the approach to Morston village, Norfolk, England. The village appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Merstona. The name means 'marsh town or settlement'. Like its neighbour Blakeney, Morston, used to be a major port 400 years ago, but is now only used by a small number of fishing and leisure craft and for seal watching trips at Blakeney Point .The 1973 Derby Stakes winner was Morston, (named after the village) whilst his sibling Blakeney won the same race in 1969.
