Nothing effectual wasdone till the special session of tlie Legisla-ture in 1835-0, when the canal board was. At the session of the Legislature in1836-7, the State entered upon a splendidscheme of internal improvements. TheState was completely chequered with rail-road projects, and many millions weresquandered. The total length of the roadsto be at once completed was some thirteenhundred miles, and five millions of dollarswere expended in locating and gradingthem.
