Thefe birds are common in the fens duiing the winter feafon, andare often caught in great plenty, and fent for fale, with other wildfow], to the London markets, where it is known by the name of theDunbird. This is the fize of the common Wigeon, but is held inrather more efteem for the table. The fpecies is of the migratorykind, and is found to inhabit Afia and Ameiica, as well as Europe. With us it appears to be only an occafional vifitor during thewinter feafon. Its ordinary food confifts of the teftacecus tribes ofanimals, and various fifties of the fmaller kind, which inhabit fennyfituations. The flight of thefe birds is diftinguiftied by its fwiftnefs. The length of the male bird is about nineteen inches, that of thefemale is fomewhat lefs, and the general tints of the plumage moreobfcurely cinereous and dulky than in the male bird. PLATE.
